Billie Jacobina’s AW17 presentation transformed the viewer into an electric, colourful, striking world of beauty. Featuring countless pink balloons, furry pink shoes, mermaid earrings, pops of blue and yellow, and many obscure accessories, this collection was one to remember.
Billie Jacobina is a graduate of UCA Rochester, where she studied fashion textiles print. Since then, she has been selected to show her collection at Graduate Fashion Week 2016, awarded the British Council GFW Residency award, and won Fashion Scout’s ‘One To Watch’ award.
For the British Council GFW Residency award, Jacobina spent three months in Indonesia working on a collaboration for Jakarta Fashion Week 2016. She tells SANT that her AW17 collection is “based on my experience out there”, and hopes to return this year.
Her AW17 collection features different style trousers, dresses, jackets, leggings, hats, skirts, and more. Each item is distinctly unique, complemented by colourful hair, makeup, and accessories.
Bodysuits, leggings, and bucket hats featured a pink design with splashes of blue, orange and red, worn by both male and female models. They walked through the crowd, interacting with the audience in a fun and flirty way, giving them up close views of the intricate designs.
Jacobina tells SANT about her experience at UCA Rochester, saying: “I loved it. It was so crucial. I wanted to go to a uni where I could get into graduate fashion week, so that was the main reason I went there. I wanted to do print design, and my prints were so different from anyone else’s, so I think that’s why it’s come this far. It’s pretty crazy.”
She cites her biggest influences as Ashish and Maish Arora for having lots of sequins and colour. “I’d like to show at every fashion week possible,” Jacobina says of her future, “just to get my brand out there and show colour. It’s all about being happy.”
