Every year, we brave the January sales in the hope of getting ourselves a great bargain. With sale season in full swing, we’ve decided to give you our best advice on how to make the most of the deals available.
Make A List
When sale season comes around, it’s easy to leave your impulse control at the door and just go crazy, but this is a sure-fire way to end up overspending. Make a list of what you’re looking for and try to stick to it.
It might seem obvious, but shopping around is the most important thing to do when looking for a good discount. Some retailers offer their best deals online, while for others it’s best to go in store. It’s easy to just grab the first thing you see, but taking the time to shop around will usually end up saving you money.
Hidden gems get their name for a reason. Often, the item you’re looking for has ended up on the wrong rack or shelf so be sure to check thoroughly. In the chaos of the sales, they may have even ended up on the floor. Ignore the frenzy around you and just take your time.
Choose the Right Time
Although it can be manic first thing in the morning, you have the best chance of seeing all that a store has to offer. Alternatively, head to the shops just before closing. Retailers are desperate to put new stock out every day to attract new customers to their store. This means that items lying around at the end of the day are usually subject to further reductions.
Many people today are afraid to haggle and as a result, miss out on some great discounts. Clothes that are out of season and products with imperfect packaging are less likely to sell, so it’s a good idea to negotiate the price of these. It’s always better to negotiate at the end of the day or when the store is quiet.
If You Want It, Pick It Up
If you think you might buy an item, it’s a good idea to put it in your basket before anyone else can get their hands on it. Most sale items move quickly so don’t expect a good item to be around for long. You can always put something back if you change your mind.
