The Magic of Harrods
The idea to transform Harrods into an Italian market came to Dolce and Gabbana during the Christmas tree decoration. Gabbana told Vogue that the abundance of different Christmas toys reminded him of “total chaos, a flea market.”
Although the market created in the department store is more luxurious and sublime, it helps to combine the cold, wintery London with of the Mediterranean beauty of South Italy.
For many Londoners, Harrods turns into a fairytale world at Christmas. Every year, the shopping centre welcomes locals and tourists with unique decorations and brings back the atmosphere of Christmas wonders. This year, the sponsor of ‘the wonder’ are Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who are bringing original Italian traditions to the English capital.
Christmas is here
Harrods has already invited eminent designers to decorate the floors and storefronts. For example, in 2015, the main sponsor was Samsung, and last year, Burberry helped organise the “A Very British Fairytale”. This year, from 2nd of November to 28th of December, the Italian market will occupy almost all of Harrods’ floors as well as the windows.
The dolls of famous designers, Dolce and Gabbana, will welcome guests from the windows, which will be decorated as a Sicilian puppet theatre. The puppets will not only add Italian flavour to traditional British life but also will tell the story of the success of the D&G brand.
The choice of Sicilian market style is not as simple as it appears to be. It is linked to the new Sicily Bag collection by D&G. In fact, everyone who wants to buy a branded bag can meet a specially invited artist who can personalise the bags in front of visitors.
The bags will be available on the fourth floor, which will be completely redecorated as a Christmas Italian market. Visitors will find luxurious occasion dresses and classic men’s suits ideally suited for the upcoming celebration. You can also buy gifts that suit every budget. But, undoubtedly, the main attraction of the market is a luxurious Christmas tree decorated with golden toys and lights.
