    Warning Signs that Your Industrial Brakes Need Replacing

    Maintaining your industrial equipment enhances productivity while providing a safer working environment. Routine checks are a gem; they can help you spot developing issues and ensure they are timely attended to, including replacements. This reduces downtime while ensuring that you get the most out of your machinery. Investing in quality parts from top-class suppliers like Kor Pak further helps you maintain the machinery in top shape. While routine maintenance can’t be stressed enough, listening to your machinery also helps. For instance, with an open eye and ears, you can capture some tell-tales that your industrial brakes need replacing. Among the signs that tell you it is time for industrial brakes repairs and replacement includes;

    Noises

    While not always an indicator of brewing trouble, Squeaking or squealing noise shouldn’t be brushed off. It could be as a result of lodged debris or other foreign materials. Nonetheless, it could also be a sign that the brake pads are worn out and need replacing. That’s a common cause of the high-pitched noise as the metal in the pads contacts the rotor after applying the brakes. You could also hear some grinding noise, a sign that the pad/shoe is scraping on the metal points. Any unusual noises shouldn’t be discounted, as they signify a minor or a significant brakes problem. Whether little or major, such concerns can affect the industrial brakes’ effectiveness, exposing the users to many risks.

    Pre-shift inspection tells

    Running pre-shift inspection on your industrial equipment can’t be emphasized enough, keeping the demanding nature of the day ahead. As you consider the brake, for instance, on a forklift, see if the parking brake is effective and holds against a light pull. A quick sign that tells you it is time for replacement is a soft break. This is where the brake’s pedal push with less resistance or the pedal is closer to the floor than usual. Apart from worn-out pads, soft brakes could be an indication of a fluid leak or air in the brake lines.

    Pulling

    Much like your car, industrial brakes could cause pulling to one side due to wear. The uneven wear means that the brake doesn’t create a uniform effect, leading to the pulling effect. This makes it harder to control the machinery. While the brake pads are the usual victim, pulling could also be an indicator of foreign materials in the brake fluid, impurities that affect the brake’s effectiveness.

    Vibration/wobbling

    Did you experience wobbling or odd vibrations after applying the brakes? The effect can be felt from the steering wheels, or the machinery vibrates after engaging the brakes. This is an indication of a worn-out rotor. Over time, the rotor’s thickness takes a hit and unevenly. This is the surface that the brake pads push against, stopping the wheel’s spinning. When it is uneven, the wobbling or vibration is common due to the uneven effect.

    Odd smell

    Smells and brakes are a no-brainer. If you get a chemical odor, it is a sign that the brakes are overheating. In some instances, you can even see smoke. That’s an indication that the brake caliper is malfunctioning and needs immediate attention.

    Industrial brakes facilitate safe operation. With regular checks and maintenance, you can keep significant problems at bay. Keep an open ear and eye and your nose sharp for some tell-tales; you’d be amazed by how much you can spot, helping to divert possible industrial brake disasters.
