Flatbed trucks are seen by almost everyone fairly often. People may not see them in cities, but they’re a common sight on highways. They seem simple enough, but a few people might have heard of flatbed truck accessories and wondered what they are and what they’re used for.
First, let’s be clear about the kind of truck we’re talking about, because there are a few different kinds of the more commonly seen transport trucks:
Dry Goods –These are what are most often seen on roads. Dry goods trucks are the ones that are tall, long, and rectangular in appearance. They carry all non-liquid items for transport, like cereal, flat-screen televisions, and chairs.
Refrigerated – These don’t look all that different from dry goods trailers, but they tend to be smaller. When one can get a closer look, they might just get a peek at the electronics keeping the interior of the trailer cool.
Tanker – These are the long, metal trucks shaped like a cylinder. Tankers usually transport things like oil and gasoline.
Flatbed – The flatbed truck is widely seen carrying something large and unwieldy, like a crane, a large construction machine, or even a mobile home. These are aptly named due to the flat platform mounted behind the cabin of the truck.
The different kinds of accessories a trucker might need for a flatbed truck are:
Ancra EZ Winder – This is used by truckers to quickly wind webbing onto a winch for storage.
Coil Rack – This accessory also goes by the name of “coil chock” or “coil bunk”. They look almost like a towel rack and are used when loading hardwood onto the truck. It acts to stabilize the metal coils, making it a safer process.
Magnetic Flag Holder – This is what it sounds like. They are magnetic disks with a piece on the back for a flag.
Premium Strap Winder –A flatbed truck must be able to keep its enormous loads safely and securely in place during those long trips across country. It’s those straps that everyone sees on those flatbeds that keep them in place. A strap winder is a simple device that allows a person to wind up the strap, preventing them from flying around in the wind!
Strap Winder – This is a simpler version of the device mentioned above. It’s less expensive, but it’s also less secure and more time-consuming.
Toss ‘n Tie – This nifty little gadget is for those difficult to secure loads that reach high off the ground. The toss ‘n tie makes the job easier and faster.
Transmat Friction Mat – This is a simple mat that ensures that no one slips up on the job!
Web Winder – This is the more advanced version of the EZ Winder. It’s more expensive than the EZ, but it’s also easier to use and faster.
Now that these terms are a little more familiar, keep an eye out for them on those flatbed trucks and be proud to know what they are!
