Even if inclusion is essential in all areas, it is even more so since it is synonymous with social integration. Unfortunately, in our society’s current way of thinking, a person who works is worth more than a person who does not work. Therefore, this means that it is legitimate to be part of society and to be one of its actors.
Of course, this way of thinking remains false and does not correspond to the values of inclusion that we promote. Whether we are retired or unable to work, we all have our place in society.
But the labor market indeed represents the area where the need for inclusion is greatest. Indeed, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities is above average.
How Can The Company Change This And Be Accessible But Also Inclusive?
By following these guidelines:
- Make its premises physically accessible. Therefore, this includes the exterior with the car park and places of rest and catering, sanitary facilities, etc.
- Put in place suitable equipment to allow disabled employees to perform their tasks.
- Adjust the working time of disabled employees if necessary
- And in a perfect world, to train all its employees with disabilities to welcome those who have them. Then their integration will be entirely successful.
Note that if the workplaces welcome the public, they must apply the same regulations as the ERP. This means that whether it is new premises or premises with new parts, everything must be accessible. Small clarification: if the premises exist, the company is not obliged to make them accessible, except, of course, if it employs disabled people.
If the workplaces only accommodate staff, the Labor Code prevails. And here too, there are rules to follow to allow disabled employees to work in an accessible place.

Employing people with disabilities promotes their professional and societal integration and, therefore, inclusion. Like everyone else, people with disabilities have the right to work, develop fully, be actors in society, and discuss with their colleagues over a coffee. For that, they need to be welcomed at open arms by companies, whatever their field of activity.
