Cotton and polycotton fabrics are the most popular fabrics used for clothing. Both of them have their own advantages and disadvantages. You can wear either one of them for different purposes.
Cotton Fabric
Cotton fabric is made from cotton fibres that are obtained from the cotton plant. Cotton fabric has a soft texture and makes you feel comfortable when you wear it. It is a natural material, so it is breathable and absorbs sweat easily, which makes it suitable for hot weathers. Cotton fabric can be dyed easily and is available in many colours.
Polycotton Fabric
Polycotton fabrics are made by blending cotton with other synthetic fibers such as polyester or acrylic. Polycotton fabrics are highly durable and do not shrink after washing or drying like pure cotton does. They also hold their shape well even after multiple washings and dryings, making them ideal for everyday use such as T-shirts, shirts, pants etc.
Cotton fabrics are usually made of 100 percent natural fibres. These fabrics are lightweight and soft to the touch. They can be used in many ways like upholstery or even clothing because they are breathable, easy to clean and versatile. Cotton fabrics are also available in different types such as percale, sateen and twill.
Polyester fabrics are made from man-made fibres that are resistant to wrinkles and shrinkage during washing. They are also durable, stain resistant and easy to care for than cotton fabrics. Polyester fabrics come in many variations including corduroy, denim and knits.
Cotton is breathable, absorbent and soft to the touch. This fabric is suitable for making clothes and other items that you wear on your skin such as bedding, rugs etc. Polycotton fabric is made from synthetic fibres such as polyester and nylon; therefore it does not contain any natural materials. It is not very absorbent and tends to be stiffer than cotton fabric; however it is easy to care for and can be washed in machines at home without causing shrinkage or fading of colours.
Cotton fabric has a natural luster that makes it suitable for wearing with formal attire whereas polycotton fabric has a dull appearance which makes it suitable for casual wear only. Cotton fabrics also have some degree of elasticity which helps them retain their shape after repeated use unlike polycotton fabrics whose shape becomes distorted after several washes due to lack of elasticity in the fibre structure.
