Nickname from the X-Files and 21 Jump Street
In the 1990s, thanks to tax cuts and companies wanting to find new locals outside of California: Vancouver became a hot ticket for filming. Popular shows like the X-Files and 21 Jump Street were filmed here, although each show added in shots to make it seem like they were somewhere in America.
These shows were immensely popular, and fans were stunned to realize they were created in Vancouver when the credits rolled. These shows still have cult followings and fans, cementing Vancouver’s claim to fame.
Home to Blockbusters like Deadpool
Filming didn’t stop after the 90s ended! Recent blockbusters, like Fifty Shades, and Deadpool, were filmed in Toronto. This is still due to the large assortment of different backgrounds and scenery the city offers and the fact that it’s a comparatively cheap place to film.
Studios can fly entire casts, sets, and supplies out, film, and return back to California for cheaper than it would be to film that same way in California itself. Because of how the talent and agencies used to mainly come from the Hollywood areas in the beginning, it’s imported that Hollywood flavor directly into Vancouver.

There’s a massive number of talented and creative people living in Vancouver. People flock to the area in the same way that Americans with talent flock to LA and Hollywood in hopes of getting cast and put into a show or movie.
