RATE OF MILEAGE PRODUCTION IN 2023

The following are the approved charges for using a car (including vans, pickups, and panel trucks) as of the 1st of January, 2023. All cars, whether powered by electricity, hybrid electricity, gasoline, or diesel, are subject to these fees.

You should speak with a professional accounting firm in Aventura if you have any questions about typical mileage rates or which driving activities you should be keeping track of as the new tax year begins.

    • During the second half of 2022, you will have to pay an increased rate of 65.55 cents per mile driven for business purposes, up from the amount you’ve been paying during the first half of the year.
    • A midyear reimbursement rate of 22 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes will be made available to eligible Armed Forces members in the second half of 2022.
    • For nonprofit organizations, the current law will remain unchanged as far as the rate of 14 cents per mile is concerned.
    • Depreciation, insurance, repairs, tires, maintenance, petrol, and oil are just some of the many factors that go into determining the standard mileage rate for business use. Medical and relocation rates are determined by actual expenditures incurred.

As a result of the Tax Cuts and Job Act, employee travel costs that are not reimbursed cannot be deducted as a miscellaneous itemized expenditure. Any costs associated with relocating cannot be deducted from taxable income unless the taxpayer is a member of the armed forces on active duty and is relocating due to a permanent change of station.

Instead of relying on the IRS’s predetermined standard mileage rates, filers are free to figure out how much it really costs to use their vehicle for business purposes.

When filing their taxes, taxpayers have the option of using the normal mileage rate, which they are typically required to do in the first year the vehicle is accessible for business usage. Later on, customers have the option of using either the predetermined fee per mile driven or their actual out-of-pocket costs.

Cars and trucks on rent. If the regular mileage rate option is selected for a leased vehicle, it must be used for the entirety of the lease term (including any extensions).
